About the musical

The story focuses on the events of September 11, 2001, and how the terrorist attacks unexpectedly affected life in Gander, Newfoundland. 7,000 passengers from 38 flights, found themselves grounded in the remote town far from home and loved ones as that sunny mornings terrorist attacks forced global air traffic to a halt.

Come From Away is the creation of Irene Sankoff and David Hein, the husband-and-wife duo behind the book that led to the musical adaptation. For their research, the storytellers visited Gander on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 to meet with locals and even some "plane people" who had returned to rekindle the friendships established in that distressing time.
