When he was thirteen his voice teacher Connie Cox accepted him as her student in exchange for housework and he ended up studying under her for six years.

He then started off his career with singles and he became a highly popular artist. He had several albums achieve a gold or platinum status as well of having seventy three of his songs charting on the billboards. In 1956 he recorded two of his most popular songs titled “Wonderful! Wonderful!” which has millions of views over all the online platforms and “It’s not for me to Say”. In 1957 he released his second single to sell over one million copies which was “Chances Are”.

In 1958 he released a compilation of all of his greatest hits in which the album spent four hundred and ninety consecutive weeks on the billboard top 200 which equates to about nine and a half years! Three of those weeks the album was in the number one position. How crazy is that!

Among some of his most prestigious awards is his Grammy Lifetime achievement awards and he is in the Grammy hall of fame for three of his highest charting albums. Critics call him the “Velvet Voice” due to the smoothness and angelic voice that he has. He is also one of the last pop singers who travel with his own full orchestra!
