The Mavericks of stage magic and Titans of T.V., Penn & Teller, are coming to play a show in their hometown! Come and join us on Thursday, May 15h for a night of magical fun at The Academy of Music in our very own Philly as they embark on their 50th Anniversary Tour. Philadelphia’s very own Academy of Music is excited to welcome Penn & Teller on May 15th as they embark on their 50th Anniversary Tour across North America and Europe! Featuring 22 dates in locations like London, Chicago, Los Angeles, and of course - Philly, this will be a magic show you don’t want to miss! Penn & Teller met in 1975 and have been joint at the hip since. They’ve performed around the world dozens of times as a duo, yet have humble beginnings - their first show with each other was at the Minnesota Renaissance Fair in the summer of 1975, and originally were going by the name of The Asparagus Valley Cultural Society before an original group mate who worked with the duo left - leaving the two to form Penn & Teller.
By the mid 80s, the group was receiving major NYC and Broadway success, performing on Broadway multiple times by the end of the decade, appearing at The Emmys, and even starring in Run-DMCs music video as scam artists for the song It’s Tricky. This set the group up to perform on prime time TV shows and broadcast networks - like Saturday Night Live, Jay Leno’s Tonight Show, Conan O’Brian, and Today on NBC. They have been guests on various shows throughout the 90s, all the way from Bernie Mac to The Muppets toThe SImpsons.
They have also written many books about their magical approach, including the widely popular Penn & Teller's Cruel Tricks For Dear Friends, and have even led their own TV show on Showtime and a podcast on Free FM. Penn & Teller have been around the world and performed in every space imaginable for their industry. They’ve sold tens of thousands of tickets for their live showcases, and are the certified kings of magic and media in the late 20th and early 21st century. Their appearance at Philly’s Academy of Music is a treat - and we are so excited to welcome them to the stage!
